In week 6 we continued looking into Measurement. Long before the rulers that we have come to know with their mm, cm and m standard measurements came about, the Egyptians used their own standard measurements.
Cubits, Foot, Digit and Hand span lengths were used. How did they standardise it? They used the cubit, foot, digit and hand span of their Pharaoh. Hopefully their Pharaoh didn't change too often.
We investigated the range of cubits, hand spans, feet and digits of our classmates. Then we sorted them to find our most common length (mode), our median length, the range of lengths and the class averages for each of these measurements.
Shirley Serban, the Principal at Lake Brunner School (this school is on the lake front of Lake Brunner and has stunning views of the Southern Alps), has shared her video and song to help keep us safe as we return to school in Level 2.

at present as we feel our way through how distance and digital learning will go, there is no expectation that every activity be done. The goal is for all of you to feel linked with school and classmates, safe and supported with your families, and for all of us to get through this strange time.
You can do a mix of activities in our Google Classroom, on our flip grid, links on this Blog page, from your Home Learning kits, on the TV Home Learning programmes on both TVNZ 2+1 and TV 3 kids programmes, or even your own personal passion project - as long as you can show what you have been working on (a report, a google document or slide show, movie/video, photos, model ...
New Zealand and Australia come together for their Remembrance Day, a day that helped forge them as nations that stood apart from Great Britain. The April 25th is hugely important to our 2 countries, as it is the day we have chosen to remember those who have served in many wars that we have been involved in together.
Other countries have their own Remembrance Days, selected for them through different dates that have gone down in history as being important or significant to them.
Worthy of their Sacrifice - Schools Spectacular 2013
As the Corona Virus still affects both countries, this will be a very different Remembrance day for our nations. No attending the Cenotaphs for the Dawn Services, no watching the light displays and films being broadcast across the walls of our National Museum at the Domain, no expeditions to Gallipoli or Passchendaele to see the battlefields.
This year will see a number of New Zealanders and Australians of all nationalities standing outside their homes, looking to the stars or the oncoming sunrise or the new day. A day when we remember the huge loss of life and injuries suffered by all sides affected by this and every war that has come after.

Home Learning | Papa Kāinga TV is free to air, on TVNZ channel 2+1 and on TVNZ on Demand, as well as on Sky Channel 502,running from 9am to 3pm on schooldays with programming for children and young people aged 2 to 15, as well as for parents.
Māori Television broadcasts te reo educational programmes (for ages 0 to 18) from 9am to 3pm on schooldays.
Programmes that are aimed at our age level start around 11am and include cooking, literacy, maths, inventing, science and history.
